80th Golden Globe

The 80th Golden Globe Awards ceremony was held on January 10, 2024 in the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association chose the best films and American television productions shown to public in 2023. The ceremony was produced by Dick Clark Productions and Jesse Collins Entertainment and the HFPA. At the Sunday night’s ceremony the major blockbuster contenders like Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” and Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” were awarded together with others. The ceremony attracted 9,4 million viewers around 50% more than the viewership of the previous ceremony, which amassed a mere 6,3 million viewers. In addition to airing on CBS the show hosted by comedian Jo Koy was also streamed on Paramount+ for the first time ever, where it became the platform’s second highest-streamed live event.

The host of the show has been massively criticized for inconvenient jokes during the show.Koy literally was asking the present actor Robert de Niro how he managed to have a child at 80 and was criticizing the length of the winner’s film “Oppenheimer”. He  managed as well to drive mad one of the stars of the evening  – Taylor Swift who didn’t look at all pleased after Koy went on joking about her. But never the less, the show was a big success and drew huge attention of a wide range of audience.

This year The Globes introduced two new competitive categories for the 2024 broadcast including Cinematic and Box Office Achievement for films that received substantial amounts of money in domestic and global ticket sales, as well as the Best Performance in stand-up Comedy on Television for popular comedic sets on TV and streaming which was won by Ricky Gervais. The film Barbie directed by talented Greta Gerwig was running for almost all categories of the awards, but finally took over by winning at  the brand new Cinematic Box achievement category with the gorgeous Margo Robbie in Barbie pink dress by Valentino who accepted the award together with Greta Gerwig. All “blond “success for a women empowerment in pink – that was the moto of the winner film.

Another winning film expressing the women empowerment topic was “Poor things” by talented Greek Director Yorgos Lanthimos where Emma Stone won the award for the female role category. Lilly Gladstone won in the female category too thanks to her extraordinary  performance in Matin Scorsese’s “Flowers of the Killer Moon “ along co-star Leonardo De Caprio who was nominated for the role, but didn’t win the Golden globe as it went to Cillian Murphy for “The Oppenheimer”.

Among this year’s major nominees in the Box Office Achievement category were Nolan’s nearly $1 billion-grossing Oppenheimer, Guardians of the Galaxy film, Taylor Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour concert film, and Gerwig’s $1.4 billion-earning Barbie, the highest-grossing film of 2023 and winner of the inaugural Box Office statuette.

Other high-profile 2024 Golden Globes contenders included Maestro director-star Bradly Cooper, Killers of the Flower Moon actor Leonardo DiCaprio, Wonka‘s Timothee Chalamet, hit streaming series Beef‘s Ali Wong and Steven Yeun, and most members of the ensemble cast of HBO’s popular drama series Succession.

The red carpet was full of surprises with original dresses of haute couture and the main colors of the season were definitely  red ,  Barbie pink and all different shades of this feminine color and sparkly green ( seen on Taylor Swift ). Romance was ruling at this edition of the Golden Globes and the one of the most star couples .
