There were 9800 participants in the tenth edition of the LIMES magazine Festival of which this year returned to the Doge’s Palace in Genova: three days of meetings dedicated to the important issues of current geopolitical affairs of Italian and foreign experts. This edition, together with the celebration the tenth anniversary of the Italian geopolitical magazine, was a great opportunity to address the topic”The Italian factor” which led to questions about the strengths and weaknesses, limits and potential of the Italian presence on the international chessboard. “The Limes Festival,” said the LIMES magazine’s editor-in-chief Lucio Caracciolo, “is the most important event that our magazine contributes to organizing every year. The vast and passionate participation that marked this edition of the Festival is a source of satisfaction but above all a commitment to the future”.

The Festival has now become an unmissable event that marks the calendar of cultural activities of the Doge’s Palace and the city, underlined the president of the Doge’s Palace Foundation for Culture Beppe Costa being a great opportunity to deepen the knowledge of issues that are increasingly of interest to citizens. I am particularly proud of this year’s success because as a Foundation we underline our role as a center for the conception and production of culture, which has always been attentive to the social development of the territory and its community.

On Friday morning, the festival began with 1,100 students attending the debate, 600 in attendance at the Ducale and 25 classes connected with various schools. Among the speakers were Ilvo Diamanti, professor of European Political System at the Carlo Bo University of Urbino, Antonio Scurati, writer and essayist, Paolo Peluffo, advisor to the Court of Auditors and former spokesman for the President of the Republic Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, You Ji, professor of International Relations at Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University, Aleksij Arestovič, former advisor to the Office of the Ukrainian President Volodymir Zelenskyj.

One of the most interesting debates that caused a big interest and attention during the Festival was the debate between a Russian geopolitician Oleg Trenin and Ukranian former advisor to the Government Alexej Arestovitch moderated by Italian journalist Orietta Moscatelli.
The two guests who were connected with the Limes festival online expressed both their ideas about the weaknesses of the war in Ukraine on both sides and of the necessity of eminent talks about peace.
Even the Ukranian ex advisor to the administration noted a certain strain to the Ukranian side and the readiness to start the peaceful process. Arestovich also noted his desire to run for presidency in Ukraine which is an interesting political turn for the history of this military conflict.
Another debate moderated by Germano Dottori, a famous Italian geopolitician and specialist in war strategies, was dedicated to  the discussion of the topic of the importance of Italy’s engagement in global discussion of the war situation and how Italy could actively play part as a peace regulator.

The next edition of the Limes Festival will be held from 10 to 12 May 2024.
